I put it out there to my Facebook followers last week to throw some random topics at me that I would try turn into blog posts. I realised I could turn just about anything into a lingerie post somehow! The selection they gave went from Football themes to wild animals. I thought I would give the challenge a go and do a few of them. One that took my fancy, and the first one that came up was Big is Beautiful.

I tend to not use the words big or small in regards to the female form as these are words that can be called complimentary sometimes and then offensive at others. Think about it... If someone told you, you have a big bum it can sound to be a negative. But if you were told you have a big smile or even sometimes a big bust, it could be seen as a compliment. It's all how we perceive the word and what it's related to.

I remember a time when I was 12 and my Mum pointed out to her friends how big my bum was. I had no concept of size or body image at that age but I knew the word big and heard this as an insult. It made me paranoid about it and I remember tying jumpers around my waist and wearing flared skirt options rather than anything fitted anymore. Years later I confronted my Mum about this one comment she made. She didn't really remember it, but I told her how much it had affected me. She was shocked I felt that way as she was saying it as a compliment! She had a flat bum and was envious of the fact I actually had a round one. It was the one thing she was most self conscious about when it came to her own body. So to her, big was beautiful.

What I wanted this post to be was to focus on some beautiful imagery that doesn't portray your stock standard model size. Media focuses on certain sizes when it comes to lingerie, just like with fashion, but the lingerie shape is different yet again. I often find stunning photography using all different shapes and sizes as their models. The problem is that these images don't make it into the general public's view. And even for me I think they are hard to find. Wouldn't it be nice if all body types were shown to us more in media. Then the difference between what we class as normal, big or beautiful would grow even smaller... (see, smaller as a good point not a negative).

So I present to you some of the beautiful photography I have saved up over the years of stunning curvier models dressed in lingerie. Now no one could tell me that these women are not beautiful...

Do you find the word big to be an insult but the word small to be a compliment? I want to change that... Have you had a negative body image comment said to you that you still hold on to? What's your story?

I took a trip to the country with a friend the other week to just relax and go for a walk. I thought it would be nice to take some lingerie with me and do another little shoot. I packed up ten outfits into a bag, grabbed my camera and walked out the door. An hour later we arrived at our destination, went to grab my lingerie stash and realised I had left it at home! Great.... now what to do? Well I guess, realistically, I came to go for a walk, so walk I did. After about ten minutes and about ten great locations to shoot some stuff, it was suggested to me to just shoot what I was wearing. Hmmm that was an idea. I of course had on nice lingerie. Two layers of it in fact.

I had the above Elle Macpherson Obsidian chemise on over another set. So I thought why not?? I subtly got myself out of the chemise without taking off my dress. Placed it in a couple locations and shot away! After doing that I thought, hmmm, I have a nice bra on too! Maybe I should use that while I'm here! So again I slipped that off and took some more shots. Didn't turn out as well though. I purchased all these items from the Bendon Outlet store for only $20 a piece. Pretty amazing for such high priced items.

Four Leaf Clover

I jokingly said "Let's see if we can find a four leaf clover!" when I came across a huge patch of them. And within one minute... I found one! Oh yeah! Lucky day right?? Well not really cause I forgot my lingerie to shoot and could only get a few photos to use on the blog. Oh well.

On my next free day I went for a walk in my area and captured the following...

Hand made triangle bra

Valery

Triumph from Japan! The designs were nice over there!
I am in the process of organising a proper photo shoot with a model, that will capture a Winter in Melbourne. Let's hope this is the first of many proper stylised photo shoots for MyLingerieAddiction.

What would you like to see being used in the upcoming shoot?

I took a trip down memory lane when I went to visit the parentals the other day. I read my old diaries, went through boxes of clothing and sat in my old work room surrounded by fabrics, ribbons and lace. It was a little overwhelming being back there and remembering the life I used to lead. Designing full time with no space for anything else in my life. I gave up relationships, sleep, and my beloved piano time for my business. This is no longer how I live....

I still miss the piano I'd played since I was seven but I live in a one bedroom apartment now and just don't have the space for my 80 year old upright to fit anywhere. I have an electric but it just isn't the same as the sound of ivory and wood. After training in classical piano for many years and playing at night to unwind I think it's the next thing I need to work on getting back into my life permanently.

So this is going to be a rather unusual post for My Lingerie Addiction, but I realise I can make a lingerie post using just about anything as my subject! So after I sat down and played for a while I decided to take some shots as I liked the combination of my piano and lingerie. I remembered saving quite a few photos from the web with a lingerie clad model sitting at a baby grand.....yes there are actually a few out there. I think it's not only me that finds music sexy. And playing a musical instrument like the piano can be quite a beautiful, sensual thing.

So here are my two loves for you, lingerie... and the piano.

Even though I'm against mismatched lingerie I loved the photo.

What is a random subject you would like to see turned into a lingerie blog post?

Bordelle

For all the Aussies out there reading this, I'm sure you know Lady Gaga is in town. I am not a fan of hers but I have to admit I am always intrigued by her outfits. How could I not?? Every video clip features her in amazingly outrageous costumes that often resemble lingerie. I have seen her wearing some actual well known lingerie labels too, not just a Gaga costume creation. Brands such as  Bordelle, Atsuko Kudo, Obey My Demand, Jean Paul Gaultier for La Perla and Agent Provocateur to name a few. She wears off the rack garments as well as custom made pieces from the more obscure kinky lingerie labels.

I could start my video clip rant here but I wont...this time. Because even though I hate the overtly sexual nature used to advertise a female singer nowadays, I do still find myself glued to the screen watching woman after woman gyrating around in lingerie. I however sit there going "Ohhhh that's La Perla Black Label!" or "I love the idea of that one sleeve body suit."

So if you want to dress like Gaga, here are some of the labels you have actually seen her wearing and didn't even know...

UK label Bordelle. Seen on Gaga in photo shoots and live on stage. Above is the Bondage version of the classic Angela Dress. Still available on the Bordelle Website. Game enough to wear it as outerwear? I reckon I would try to...

Obey My Demand is a new designer label again from the UK. All items are hand made using leather, silk and studs! Above is their leather bra custom made and detailed for Lady Gaga in the 'Born this way' video clip. I definitely want to see this label in person as it looks spectacular. Below is the original version still available custom made from

or in Australia at

Atsuko Kudo has discovered such a niche market. Couture, latex, lingerie. Oh my..... Originally from Tokyo (oh I love the crazy Japanese!) she studied in London and her creations are seen on celebrities around the world. I will do a feature on this amazing label soon. Currently only available overseas but you can order through her website.

Obviously the lingerie labels above are all very high end but to be honest I was surprised to find the prices were a lot cheaper than I expected for something at this level. Have a look for yourself and see what you think.

The following lingerie is my interpretation of her style. From labels found at your local Club X store to handmade pieces on Ebay. It's all about how you dress it up. If you decide you would like to do it the Lady Gaga way!

Leg Avenue Body stocking

bebaroque

Agent Provocateur

Charismatico dancewear
Nichole De Carle

I know Lady Gaga isn't exactly most peoples fashion inspiration but I thought for the fun of it, why not let it be mine for awhile? Think I'll pop on a lace bodystocking today... Might leave the pleather catsuit for another time, though I think it will be warm once I get myself into it!

What do you think of Lady Gaga and lingerie being worn by women in Video clips?
