Yes you heard me correctly...Disney! I have two reasons for this post.
Number ONE,

I attended a costume party last weekend which gave the rather hard theme of WHATEVER fancy dress you wanted! So seriously, what do you wear to one of those? Should I go as Catwoman? A sexy Pirate? A burlesque dancer? There were too many options! After going through idea after idea, I settled on the one thing that suited me most right then, Snow White. I had recently cut my dark hair shorter and had the pale white skin after being ill for a few weeks, so all I needed was to pop on some bright red lipstick, find a cheap ebay costume and I was done!

I went online and purchased a Sexy snow white costume for $40 including postage and awaited it's arrival... I tried it on and was shocked that the sizing ran ridiculously small for this set and I had no time left to exchange it! Measurements on the site told me I may not even fit into the Small size, but my god, I definitely needed a medium. Crap... What do you do with a corset that doesn't even do up?? I had to make do. So off I went to Lincraft and purchased 3 bra extenders and luckily for me, it worked! I had an outfit! The costume fortunately had a cape that could cover the dodgy fix up job in the back.

Disney story number TWO,

I went back to the Bendon outlet when I received word that they were having yet another sale. All bras $20 all bottoms $10. A lot of stock goes off the shelves for these two week but sometimes you find absolute gold. This time for me was a mixed reaction. Yes they had included Pleasure State Couture in the sale, however I either had them already or they were kind of f*ugly... However this has never stopped me before! I dove into the racks and picked out two outfits that I certainly didn't love but knew I would wear... at some point... even if only once!

One of these outfits I call my Minnie Mouse set. It has a red fabric base with rather large white polka dots scattered on the fabric. The bra is cut like a quarter cup, where it sits under the nipple line, but then the underlay had a lovely soft black leavers lace to cover up whats exposed. It features ribbon tie sides on the bra and the knickers. As I tried to tell my friend, when she exclaimed "Eww....!" to the set, that I had nothing like it. She asked if that was necessarily a reason to buy it... And yes of course it is! You never know when you want a Disneyesque lingerie set to wear! I mean seriously!

I wore it the next day and was pleasantly surprised that the set looked a lot better on than off . It was extremely comfortable though ran a little big in it's back sizing and was already doing it up on the tightest hook. The look was cute yet sexy without it being super girlie. I changed my opinion and decided I actually like this set now as opposed to my "I will wear it one day" mind set. What do you think? They still have quite a few pieces left in this collection if anyone is interested, head to your nearest Bendon Outlet.

$40 for 3 pieces valued at around $335 for the set. How could I say no?? Have you ever purchased lingerie you never really liked just because it was on sale?

Since my lingerie collection is so vast I'm sometimes asked to loan things out for photo shoots. Stores are often hard to pin down or don't offer the style a photographer or stylist is looking for. So that's when they come to me... I have in the past loaned out pieces I have made but it's been nice this time around to raid my personal collection. These are photos that I would love to have anyway, as often these pieces are not photographed any other way than on a "mannequin" model for a catalogue.

35mm Photography approached me to help out on the lingerie side of an upcoming shoot. They needed ivory, plum and black garments that would be used layered under knitwear. We went through items that I had set out on a rack and they went away with a couple bags worth of goodies. I got the photos back last week and was absolutely wrapped with the results!

This talented team used more lingerie than I expected and less layering. Perhaps because the model was gorgeous and the lingerie too beautiful to hide away... So let me present to you their photo shoot for Fashionising.

What a lovely surprise it was today when I opened up my letter box and found the new im catalogue inside, ready to tempt me. It's like Christmas day getting this in the mail! LOVE is not strong enough a word to express how I feel about this upcoming range for La Perla. It has restored my faith in this amazing label. For a number of years I ummed and ahhed over most of the collections, not truly needing to buy any of it until this past year or so. The photography from the European Autumn Winter range had me gasping for breath. Yes this is what good lingerie does to me...

These items are unfortunately not going to be available in Australia until the end of the year, as we are a little behind in seasons here. But I eagerly await it's arrival and tempt you with their interpretation of this Oriental theme.

Welcome to La Perla Oriental Suite.

I have popped my name down on a wait list for some of these items once they arrive in Australia. Which pieces would you get if money was not an issue?

Have you ever used one of the following statements?

"I need to get underwear that doesn't show and tucks me in around the middle."
"I need to find a backless bra that will give me good lift to wear with this dress"
"I will just buy a really low plunging bra to wear with this top. My bra will show through and I cant go without one"
"I need a really good strapless bra that will give me a lot of cleavage and the dress will be perfect!"

You have fallen for the fashion trap... Fashion designers are often not concerned with the lingerie issue that may occur if you buy their garment. They think, well, that's your problem.  Let me set you straight. This underwear DOES NOT EXIST. Not until you physically have it on your body. What I mean by that is, you never really know until you try it on and it works for you and that particular outfit. Different body shapes, types and sizes may not work with certain garments that are on the market.
That backless bra may exist, sure, but if you are say a 14E then honestly, no, it isn't going to lift you up by four inches creating great cleavage. You may say "But I hear about these silicone bras that I can wear under a backless dress. I will just buy those." Then you find one, try it and it doesn't give you the lift you want. Or you don't want to spend the money on a good quality one so you opt for the $10 version and it falls off after about an hour. This isn't lingerie's fault.

Don't go out there after you purchase your outfit thinking this miracle garment exists. And certainly don't get angry at the lingerie industry for not yet inventing an all in one seamless, strapless, tucking, boosting bodysuit that is also backless and is sold at Myer for $50. Oh wait...and not to mention really pretty, not beige and extremely comfortable. My tip is, if you buy the dress and go in search of the right underwear, then make sure #1 you have plenty of time to search for the appropriate undergarment and take the dress with you #2 you can exchange the dress, as it may end up hanging in your wardrobe for a very long time.

I will be doing a series of posts on the best solutions for all your outfit issues. From backless dresses to single layer silks. The problems that arise from some of the outfits we buy. This will just be a guide to the options you can try with problematic outfits. It is no guarantee that it will work for you. And remember if you find a garment that works, then its well worth the investment as you will find you wear it with a lot more outfits than you expect. The fashion industry is getting worse when it comes to cuts and fabric choices and they are relying on the lingerie industry to fix their sewing mistakes. So yes you may pay less for the dress now but allow for the cost of the lingerie to go under it...

So please tell me, what are your problematic outfits? What is it that you are in search of?
