Shhh! Shut your mouth! Quiet! Shut up! Zip it! I know I don't need anymore black in my lingerie collection but I can't seem to be able to say no to an unusual style bra, even if it is in plain black. I'm always on the lookout for something just a little different. A lingerie set with that "je ne sais quoi"  If I look in bra drawer number one at home, I'd say three quarters of the bras in there are black. Perhaps it is a Melbourne thing? But really I think it truly depends on the colours you wear over the top of it everyday. I do wear a lot of black...

I just purchased my first Maison Close bra from Passion Fruit (more on this store later) I raided their racks and found a gorgeous black satin bra with zips going up the middle of the cup. You could wear it done up or open and turn it into a peek a boo bra. It was so unusual and cheeky I had to buy it! It wasn't my normal thing to do, when it wasn't on sale, but the price point for this Romanian label are actually perfectly affordable. $49 for the bra, but there weren't any matching bottoms left. Lucky for me I have a multitude of black bottoms that would match perfectly with this unique bra.

My Maison Close bra could be worn normally or remove the shoulder straps and convert it into a strapless. I loved the idea of a sexy adaptable bra. Practical yet completely raunchy! Check out the video link here to see the garments on www.youtube.com/MaisonClose

I wasn't sure how comfortable lingerie with a zip would be and I certainly didn't want to try zipping it up once I had it on....ouch! But the bra was actually not too bad! The zip sat nice and flat underneath the cup and was quite comfortable to wear.  It made me rack my brain to think of other lingerie brands that have used zips as a main feature piece. When done well, I think it makes a piece look quite modern and funky. Be it a zip strap or an item that actually unzips. Here are some of the labels I know to have done this really well.

Find me here on Twitter for up to the minute purchases and sales as I find them. I Tweeted about this purchase as soon as I bought it. I can't hold my excitement when I find new lingerie.

Have you heard of Maison Close? Would you wear lingerie that unzipped?

Hi, my name is My Lingerie Addiction and welcome to my world. I have been receiving quite a few emails lately asking lingerie related questions as well as wondering who I am and what authority I have talking about this subject. I am so grateful that a little fun venture has turned into something that I can use to not only vent, but to also get my point across to people out there whom I will never meet. I never really introduced myself at the start, as the blog was just for my personal enjoyment and for my friends to read. It was a venting tool so I didn't have to talk lingerie over group dinners or birthday parties. I think my friends were well and truly over that conversation. So I started the blog in order to not only get it all out of my system but to document how much I actually own (I still don't know the exact number).

The conversations I have about lingerie can go to extremes and to be honest I don't have many people I can talk in depth about it with. Now thanks to the blog, there is you. There is a lot to learn about the world of lingerie. From media presented lingerie photography to feminine insecurities. From lingerie being thought of as purely a sex aid to how best store your bras. The argument of what men want compared to what women want. There are a million topics out there I want to touch on and learn more about myself. And six months ago I jotted down on paper some subjects I'd like to broach. I wanted to see if I would have enough to write about, and after twenty minutes I had over a hundred topics. This was a viable idea.

In one way, My Lingerie Addiction is for me to spout my opinion on labels, styles and service. In another it is a tool for those interested in reading how to see lingerie the way I do. Not just as a necessity, not just as a sexual accessory. Lingerie is all about you and if we as women don't talk about it how will we know what is available and how it should feel on? Media exposes us to fashion but lingerie is still taboo and hardly written about. Shapewear dominates Australian magazines over all other lingerie styles and I truly hate that. This will soon be all we know about lingerie.

Do you want to know if you are wearing the correct bra size? Or would you like to know more about the different shapes that are available and what body type they are best suited to? Is it ok to wear a push up bra on a daily basis? Where do you find a strapless bra for a G cup size? This is what I am here for. I may sound preachy and opinionated at times but I feel I can be. This is my anonymous world. Your opinion can differ from mine about style and that's completely fine. I just want to show you all the options you may not normally be exposed to via normal media. And let me tell you, I have been in this industry a long time and you wont meet anyone else in Australia as passionate about lingerie as I am. Certain things I write about are actual facts and some are merely my opinions. I am excited that you are reading and asking questions. I hope you pass it around so the conversation can continue (also feel free to skim and just look at pretty pictures).

So let me tell you a few base facts and reasons behind My Lingerie Addiction... the blog.

#1 Yes, I am a female! (Someone did actually question this)
#2 I am in my early 30s
#3 I have worked in the Australian lingerie industry for ten years in many different fields. As a professional fitter, designer, trainer, stylist, personal shopper and blogger. It is my passion, my career and my fun.
#4 My aim is to have Australian women open up to the world of good lingerie and not think of it as only a necessity, a body changing garment or a sexual item worn to please others. We aren't being exposed to decent lingerie here the way that Europe or the US are.
#5 I keep myself hidden for a reason, as obviously I am talking about a very personal and often thought of as sexual subject. So please no dodgy comments...(guys I'm talking to you)

I know we Aussies don't really celebrate Halloween here (yet) but I happen to love the idea of it. Not because of the over commercialisation of this non holiday, but the fact that people can dress up in such a flamboyant way and it be completely acceptable. You can become a superhero and suddenly feel powerful. You can become a scandalous celebrity and bring out your inner diva. You can become a zombie and appear ugly and be completely comfortable within that! You can be whatever it is you want and by doing so it often changes the behaviour of the person in costume. You start to role play. You have fun exploring the character you portray.

This Halloween I will be in lingerie costume, just for the fun of it. I know I don't often talk about "dressing up" because I want to first introduce lingerie as being all about you, not anyone else. But there is that other fun side of frivolous, non practical lingerie sets that I absolutely adore. Not just to see the reaction it can receive but also the different personality you sometimes put on when wearing them. It doesn't have to be the tacky "Naughty nurse" costume but something out of the normal realm of lingerie. Something that you cannot wear under clothing. Something that is strictly for fun and not necessarily a costume. Here is an array of styles I will be considering wearing this Halloween night.

Well the rumours were true... Bellechasse is closing down.  I have such mixed emotions when I hear that a lingerie store is about to fold. In a way I'm really sad that: not only is there one less store I can shop at, but I feel the lingerie industry is dying here in Melbourne from lack of interest. On the other hand: I know they will have an amazing sale and perhaps a few newbies will purchase their first non basic lingerie set, because it's cheap. Bellechasse aren't announcing the closure on their email outs or Twitter feed but it is happening very soon. The For Lease sign is up for all to see...

I received notification on Friday announcing their Oh La La Sale. It offered 30% off everything online and instore. Or 50% off if you came instore with a friend. This discount included items that were already reduced. I couldn't wait! I headed down there on Saturday and went slightly mental... The front section of the store displays all the full price stock and the second room all the discounted stock. Signage is minimal displaying the extra 30% and 50% discounts and most of the customers in there had no idea there was a sale. I however was grabbing stock like a mad woman trying to save her belongings from a burning house. One hand loaded with lingerie while the other hand was using my mobile, talking to clients, letting them know what was available. I was frantic!

I started grabbing bargain after bargain. Did I need a crystal riding crop? Well no I don't need one but it was by Maison Close and it was all of $24! That will look great on display in my house. Did I need more stockings? Um, no I didn't. But they do wear out and these were only $5! I started making a pile on the counter as there was no way I could carry any more. I had people on the phone ordering other items as I walked around the store. One ID Sarrieri lace and Swarovski crystal bodysuit rrp $600 down to $175. SOLD! Two full length silk chiffon robes with feather trim. Done. One peach chiffon and black chantilly lace trim sleepwear set. Robe, chemise and g-string. On the counter. Three pairs of black fluffy high heel slippers! Ahh it went on and on.

The pile grew bigger and bigger and I searched harder and harder to find some hidden treasures. I couldn't get everything I wanted but thought I'd better grab the ones I thought would sell out first. The designer labels, the fun accessories, the best bargains. I would come back for the 'full priced' lingerie and photography books on my next visit.

The wonderful sales assistant helped me find sizes and prepare boxes for my goodies. "I hope you have a car to take all this home!" she said. Alas I didn't and I would be walking to the train station to ferry my bags home. All 6 of them...

What I purchased for moi was my very first Marlies Dekkers set. It was reduced from $475 down to a mere $65! I had to fish around in a box out the back to find items in my size but it was well worth the effort. The 'Consuelo' set came in a push up style with a matching short and g/string in a charcoal grey colour. It was in a lovely satin fabric with a crystal detail on all the pieces. The Marlies Dekkers brand specialise in strap work on their basic smooth line cut. It's a pretty amazing label. I'm very excited to give this a go.

I also purchased some boudoir pieces that will probably only be used in photo shoots. The Fifi Feather Robe for $65 and the Maison Close crystal riding crop for $24. I found some matching pieces to sets I already had in the bargain bowls. All $5 a piece. Like the Made by Niki Slinkies bikini in Aqua to a set I just purchased online. My haul was pretty amazing. I still want more, but then again, I always do.... This is what I purchased on Saturday.

I was also lucky enough to be given the above black and gold set and the feather bra as a gift from my friends this weekend (I purchased the bottom and suspender myself to match). What a lucky girl I am! My friends know me far too well...

The sale continues instore and online and is DEFINITELY worth the visit. The sale includes books, toys, hosiery and lingerie. The address for those too lazy to click on the link is
1053 High Street Armadale Vic
 and the website is
www.bellechasse.com.au

All I can say is get in quick. Though I'm hoping there will be even further reductions closer to a confirmed closing date.
Want anything from Bellechasse? I'm heading there right now....

Let's continue the Problematic Outfit series with the backless dilemma. So much stress can be created when women purchase a low back or backless dress, yet still expect to wear a normal bra with it. No thought is put into what sort of undergarment they are meant to wear under a single layer silk, completely backless dress. "I want something really pretty, completely smooth. Maybe a corset or something that's backless. Oh and it must be a really good push up." Arggghhhhhh! NO! Stop there! It doesn't exist. It just doesn't. So I want you to think about these things before you fork out the $$$ for a backless designer dress (Brides, I'm talking to you).

Women hate it when I tell them what their options are when they want to wear this problem outfit. They often huff in disgust at the thought of a silicone bra and think they can find for themselves that elusive, pretty miracle bra without a back strap. Good luck is all I say... You only have a few lingerie styles to choose from and it will depend on the shape of the outfit, which one you can go for. Is it completely backless or just low back? Does the outfit have straps wide enough to cover normal bra straps or is it spaghetti strapped? Let me show you some of the options you actually have when it comes to these hard to "under-dress" outfits.

Detail back bra

The first option you can look into is the detail back bra. This is a style that you can acceptably show off under outfits and not be embarrassed about an ugly back strap. You can often find a jewel or chain detail back bra that is pretty enough to wear as an outer wear piece. You have to make sure these bras have a nice moulded cup and that the back is done up tight enough as not to ride up on the under bust. Don't let me catch you out in public like this...

Beige bra under backless top? NO!

Wrap back bra
If your outfit has straps (not spaghetti straps) and has a low back, not backless, you can opt for the wrap style bra. This garment has a long back strap, often interchangeable, that you cross over in the back and wrap to hook in the front around your belly. This bra shape can be worn with a low v or scooped back outfit. The thing to watch out for is the strap line, especially around the stomach under finer fabrics. Best worn under slightly heavier, more structured garments.

Low back extender

If you have a bra that works with an outfit but isn't low cut enough, you can always buy a low back extender. These add ons attach to the existing hook and eye and turn your normal cut bra into a wrap style. They come in assorted colours and are best worn with bras that have straps.

Low back corset

Low back corsets are an option if you feel a bra just doesn't feel secure enough. If you think you are going to get maximum tucking from one of these, think again. They are usually designed for a smooth silhouette not a full control. If you want a smooth line under a fine fabric, you don't want too much boning. Boning on the side is enough to keep things in position and help you feel more secure. Be careful of your muffin top line, as depending on where the corset finishes and how tight it sits in this section, it may create an even worse line under certain dresses. These are better for a dress that nips in at the waist and flares over the hip so you don't see the corset line where it ends. Look out for a nice firm fit with hook and eye done up on the last hook so you have room to tighten as it stretches with normal wear. These can often be worn strapless or with straps.

Low back bodysuit
Low back bodysuits create the same effect as the corset, but usually smoother. They can come with straps or convert it to be worn strapless. The only concern is the length of the bodysuit on you, as well as the cut in the rear as to not create unsightly lines. When wearing the v back bodysuit as a strapless, make sure it is a very firm fit or you will be adjusting the garment all night long. Bodysuits need to be the correct length on your torso or it can pull the underwire up or down on the bust and in turn offer no support. Look out for a cup that sits up and over the bust to create a nice smooth silhouette and fuller coverage. This helps the garment from moving too much on the torso.

Silicone Stick on bra
Silicone stick on bras are your best option for the most problematic outfits, the completely backless dress. You don't have to worry about straps of any kind, you can position them how you need and they are completely seamless. The only problem with these are they don't offer the support of a normal bra. You wont get the lift that you would with an average push up. They are more like a large nipple cover, giving more coverage and a  little more fullness to the bust. They can however be clipped in the middle to cinch the bust inwards and create a little more cleavage. It does at least give a nice smooth profile under even your finest silks. Recommended for smaller cup sizings only. A to small D. If you are fuller, it will only be a nipple cover to you and nothing more. The rule to stick on bras is to have completely clean and dry skin. Stick on bras come in a variety of shapes and fabrics. From a normal fabric cup to the silicone variety.

Nipple Covers
Nipple covers are an option when you don't want the weight of a silicone bra holding up your dancing! It's less to think about when you're out on the town and just want to cover the headlights. They smooth things out when you don't want a boost or need the support. Remember, it isn't always about cleavage. You can opt for the silicone variety for a completely nude effect or go for something fun in a detailed style.

Now there is a lot more to each of the styles I have mentioned but I'm keeping things simple here. The following photos will give you an example of the actual variety within the options I have outlined.

The photos above and below are bad inventions that you shouldn't bother trying. It may work on a firm petite bust but on most people creates a horrible shape no matter how you put them on. Most people purchase them, try for ages to position them so they look right, then give up, rip it and half the skin off in the process! I've heard such horror stories about these. Personally speaking I would never bother trying. You could do just as good a job with sticky tape (that is not what I'm recommending. Always use an adhesive that is safe on the skin).

Hopefully you will use this post as a guide to the styles that might work under your outfit before you purchase it. As I always say, make sure you can return your outfit if you find no lingerie that works underneath it.

Do you have a silicone or stick on bra horror story? I'd love to hear it!
